Dorman Varitext in conjunction with Inprotect Systems http://www.isi-bc.com/ of Langley, BC are pleased to announce they have been selected by British Columbia Ministry of Transport to supply road safety products from their unique vehicle activated traffic calming product range on two different field studies being conducted this year.

Both trials are aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of a range of display based dynamic curve warning technologies that Dorman Varitext offer. The first trial went live in July and incorporated an overhead mounted vehicle activated speed feedback sign which not only provided the approaching driver with feedback on his speed , but also controlled a series of flashing beacons in an adjacent retro-reflective curve warning sign. The beacons flash sequence is automatically determined by the speed of the approaching vehicle. The sign with the combination of the reflective plate message , LED beacon and feedback display technologies is geared towards educating the targeted driver to connect his or her inappropriate speed to the approaching hazard and adjust speed accordingly to safely continue their journey. Standard with all DV vehicle activated products the client will be utilizing the on board wireless Data logging speed analysis feature to assist in performance evaluation.

The second trial due to go live in December 2008 will feature the IDOR LED chevron technology. This will be the first time that the technology which originated in the United Kingdom has been deployed in Canada. The IDOR chevron provides an LED enhancement of the standard retro-reflective sign and is available in both vehicle activated and steady mode operation formats.

Six WA-09 60 x 75cm IDOR chevrons are to be installed outside Clinton, BC and More news and reaction on this unique element of the trial work will feature later in the year along with live installation footage.

Dorman Varitext look forward to working with both British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Inprotect Systems and anticipate good feedback during 2009.
